PROJECT OVERVIEW

The largest movie theaters chain in Peru, approached us to revamp their entire digital experience and enhance the process of finding and enjoying movies for their users. Our goal was to create a seamless, efficient, and dynamic platform that would allow users to easily discover their desired movies and select their preferred cinema and location.

MY ROLE

In addition to contributing to the creation of the concept, sketches, and mood boards, my role involved familiarizing myself with the platform on which the project was built, known as Vista. This platform had its own recommendations and limitations. Leveraging my software development knowledge, I was able to effectively communicate with the developers and drive the project forward.

DESIGN PROCESS

To initiate the design process, we sought a concept that could be extended across various platforms, including web apps, mobile apps, and kiosks -back then, the term "Design systems" didn't even exist!. Drawing inspiration from museums, where the artwork takes center stage, we decided to feature the movie posters in large, attention-grabbing sizes. This approach allowed us to make the posters the focal point of the design and capture users' attention effectively.

THE BRIEF/
They approached us with the goal of enhancing and further positioning their brand by creating a more friendly, modern, and user-friendly digital experience. The aim was to ensure that their customers felt joyful and in a good mood when choosing a movie, providing them with easy access to clear and comprehensive movie information. Our objective was to make the movie selection process easier and more enjoyable for them.

THE SOLUTION/
A simple, elegant, and eye-catching design was our solution. After numerous explorations and iterations, we were able to create effective solutions for the brand. The new design was well-received by the brand's customers, resulting in a significant increase in conversion rates.

RESEARCH/
For this project, we closely collaborated with UX Designer Catalina Avila to gain a deep understanding of the brand's users, their culture, and their habits. This allowed us to create tailored solutions that catered to their specific needs. Additionally, conducting market research and studying the competition and other brands played a crucial role in shaping our design approach.

VISUAL DESIGN/
Our goal was to achieve a clean and modern aesthetic, characterized by ample white space and prominent large images. This approach created a visually appealing and immersive experience for users across all screens and interfaces.

CHALLENGE & SOLUTIONS

The main challenge was effectively communicating with the Vista team, who managed sales and products for the cinemas. To overcome this, we assigned a dedicated contact person from Vista to facilitate coordination and address any questions. Thanks to my limited development knowledge, we successfully adapted and found satisfactory solutions for all parties involved.

LEARNINGS

My biggest takeaway from this project was the ability to adapt to the diverse needs of both the client and the developers. Working collaboratively with multiple disciplines, departments, companies, and languages was a valuable experience that ultimately led to a successful outcome for everyone involved.
